The Roads Not Taken (too often)

The late Charles Kuralt, the one time host of "CBS Sunday Morning" once wrote:  "Thanks to the Interstate Highway system, it is possible for one to travel from coast to coast without actually seeing anything."

Once in a while it's nice to get off of the Interstate system and travel the back roads of America.  Mostly the US-XXX highways of 50 or more years ago.  Some of these roads look just like they did "back in the day."  The Mom and Pop stores and diners, 2 pump gas stations, junkyards by the side of the road, and roadside parks next to rivers and streams.

As spring approaches (and convertible weather beckons,) these roads present a time to reflect, remember, and plan for future return trips.  Makes the job one of the best things going.
